PARIVAR Society is associated with the Department of Science and Technology Government of India under technology mission division. Under this project named “Citizen’s Campaign for Water Conservation, Harvesting and Groundwater recharge”. PARIVAR Society has come forward to encourage people to save water in region of Delhi NCR and around.
Saving water is great for the environment. In other words, using water more efficiently has both economic and environmental benefits. Saving water is a good deed, because it’s an essential resource, we all need. We all must do our part to conserve water. When it comes to save water, a small change can have a big impact. There are many ways to conserve water, and they all start with us.
India faces “worst water crisis” in history Groundwater Scarcity, Pollution Threaten India’s Health, Economy, Environment, and Food Supply. India is currently facing the biggest crisis in its history. And no, it’s not COVID-19. India is suffering from one of the world’s worst national water crises. In fact, it is considered the center of the global water and sanitation crisis. The problem is so big, our lives, livelihoods, and futures hang in the balance. And no, it’s not a problem that can be easily resolved by water pumps, a purifier, and retail bottled water.
As the world faces an increasingly critical need to address climate change, the impact that water conservation has on a sustainable environment is undeniable. Groundwater is the primary source of freshwater that caters to the demand of ever-growing domestic, agrarian and industrial sectors of the country. Over the years, it has been observed that the necessity for the exploitation of groundwater resources for various everyday needs, like toileting, bathing, cleaning, agriculture, drinking water, industrial and ever-changing lifestyles with modernization is leading towards tremendous water wastage .
The following methods would prove useful for it:
1. Protection of Water from Pollution; If the total fresh water available on the earth remains pollution free, it is sufficient to meet the drinking water needs of the existing population of the world, unfortunately a large portion of fresh water does not remain fit for use of the living world due to increasing economic activities, urbanization etc. Oceanic water in the form of ecological system of seas is an important environmental system, but during the last century pollution has spread in large proportions. Surface water is mainly found in rivers and lakes and underground water is found under land at different depths, but which have become polluted .
• Aerator are various mechanical devices used for aeration or mixing air with water.
• Aerators can be installed on 95% of tabs and as per estimates, their use can save up to 1274 liters of water in a months.
• Cost of aerators start 100 to 1000 rupees.
•Small drip from a faucet washer can waste 30 liters of water per day.
•Repair or change the leaks faucets.
1. With 16% of the world population, India only has 4% of the total available freshwater.
2. Agriculture only accounts for 80% of India’s total water consumption.
3. The biggest water rejuvenation plan launched by the Indian government is “NamamiGange” for the Ganges river basin.
4. Rain accounts for 85% of the available water while the rest 15% is from melting snow.
